Change DCC address of an MTB DP1 switch machine

If you’re using more than one switch on your layout, you will have to change DCC addresses of your MTB DP1 switch machines, since they all use 5 as their default DCC address. Luckily this is a very simple process:

  1. Press the test button more than 5 seconds. The LED will start to blink repeatedly if you pressed long enough.
  2. Send a command to your layout with the desired DCC address. I did so with JMRI, since this is the software I use to control my layout.
  3. If the LED stops blinking, you successfully changed the switch machine’s address, which is permanently saved now.

See the video below that demonstrates the LED’s behaviour during the whole process.

The first, single blink you see after ~2 seconds can be ignored in our case—if you would release the test button after seeing it, the switch machine would change polarity. The repeated blinking after ~5 seconds is the signal you’re waiting for.

If you need help to install the MTB DP1 switch machine on your layout, see my previous blog post.
